Horse Mountain, under the jurisdiction of Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is located in the central and northern part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, north of Nanning City, on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Hongshui River, and at the northern foot of the Daming Mountain. It lies between 107°42′38″E to 108°30′00″E longitude and 23°24′06″N to 24°02′06″N latitude. It borders Shanglin County and Xincheng County of Laibin City to the east, adjacent to Wuming District to the south, borders Pingguo City and Dahua Yao Autonomous County of Baise City to the west, and faces Du'an Yao Autonomous County of Hechi City across the Hongshui River to the north. The county is elongated from east to west and irregularly shaped, with a maximum east-west distance of 82 kilometers and a maximum north-south distance of 71 kilometers, totaling a boundary length of 412.27 kilometers with neighboring counties. The total area of Horse Mountain County is 2,340.76 square kilometers. According to the data from the seventh national census, as of 2023, the permanent population of Horse Mountain County is 563,400.
Horse Mountain County was originally the land of the Baiyue people. In July 1951, Longshan County and Nama County were merged to establish Horse Mountain County, which was under the jurisdiction of Binyang Special Area. In December 2002, the State Council decided to abolish Nanning District, and in June 2003, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Nanning City. As of June 2020, Horse Mountain County has jurisdiction over 7 towns and 4 townships, with the county government located in Baishan Town.
In 2022, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Horse Mountain County reached 10.132 billion yuan, an increase of 5% over the previous year. The value added of the primary industry was 3.256 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3%; the value added of the secondary industry was 1.662 billion yuan (including an industrial added value of 544 million yuan), an increase of 16%; the value added of the tertiary industry was 5.214 billion yuan, an increase of 1.7%. The total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery was 5.087 billion yuan, an increase of 8.2%. Among them, the agricultural output value was 2.441 billion yuan, the forestry output value was 377 million yuan, the animal husbandry output value was 2.021 billion yuan, the fishery output value was 234 million yuan, and the output value of agricultural, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery services was 14 million yuan. The total output value of large-scale industries was 2.06 billion yuan, an increase of 0.6%. There were 2,947 enterprises with 11,300 employees; 20,700 individual industrial and commercial households with 42,700 employees; and 965 farmers' professional cooperatives with 1,683 employees.
