Who will feed China? A Book by Lester Brown (American), Reply to his Book

Due to Covid19, many countries restricted food exports to China in 2020, which made it a key year for food security in China.

China is the world's most populous country (1.42 billion) and has just a 9% of the world's arable land. So, how does China provide food for its people?

Lester Brown, an American environmentalist, wrote a book called Who Will Feed China in the 1990s.

When he speculates that the Chinese may cause a worldwide food catastrophe, but fortunately China has a per capita grain supply of 470 kg, which is larger than the global average of imports from 2001 to 2018. That china got for food the lion's shared was soybean which was about 75%

How was this feasible when basic necessities like rice only accounted for 6% of the total? This has been made feasible by a creative agriculture policy that emphasizes long-term development and cutting-edge farming technology. Hybrid rice production technology was one of them. Only 5% of arable paddy fields in the rest of the globe are used to grow hybrid rice, but it is projected that if this cultivation could be increased to 50%, an additional 160 million tons of rice might be produced.

China won the fight against absolute poverty these years, feeding an additional 400 to 500 million people. Chinese agroscientists are looking forward to the day when the rest of the globe does the same, and we altered the world.

I think Mr Brown or his team member should visit China nowadays and write a sequel to his book because he will see how China has become self-sufficient in food production and how China is sharing its food production technologies with the rest of the world.

China created the world's largest greenhouse only for tomato production which is a totally robotic and computerized system, they invest 320 million dollars, while compared to Pakistan's agriculture system it's more likely equal to zero, Pakistan has 39.57 % arable land which is much more than China arable land. But unfortunately, Pakistan imports tomatoes for $ 45 billion dollars per year.
